I will never go back to this place again. Our server was unfriendly. She brought us our drinks & we never heard from her again. We saw saw no reason to leave a tip for services that we did not receive. Paid at the register with a credit card & wrote in the amount of check on the blank line for ""Total"" with no tip. Yet when I checked my bank statement a $2 tip had been added which was not shown on my receipt. Not that $2 is a big loss. It's the failure to honor the principle of trust that offends me. If they are handling my bill improperly then how are they handling my food? Sorry to say, I'll never set foot in this establishment again.
I don't live anywhere near this place but it's worth the drive when I've got an appetite for some Indian cuisine. The food is always excellent!! It's a nice relaxing place to come and socialize with friends or to sit and study or read. It's open until 10pm but the dinner buffet closes at 9pm. If you like Indian food then you'll love this place!
I am a country boy who loves my brisket, fried catfish, tex-mex, etc., but was in San Antonio for a couple of nights in the medical center area and thought I would try this with my wife since it was close and I had read some good reviews here. Only my second time to eat Indian, and I was skeptical, but this was fabulous! This little hidden away gem is on my list for any return trips for sure. I love the flat bread and fried veggie dumplings, samosas?, and the smoky grilled chicken is a beautiful red color and very tasty. Tandoori chicken, I think. Several other meat and veggie dishes full of flavor with just a little heat. Very friendly, courteous service and the price is right. Buffet was under $25 for two without drinks. Full menu had some lamb and seafood dishes that I would like to try if I could go more often. Enjoy!
I work nearby and we go often for the lunch buffet. I finally did dinner, twice now. I just love this place. Food is always fresh, delicious, hot, plentiful. The tables are decorated, cute folded cloth napkins in every glass, waiting staff very attentive. As soon as you sit down they are asking what you want to drink (mango smoothie is delicious). If you do the buffet they try not to bother you, but you always have a refilled drink, they are on top of it. Price is great, and plenty of coupons in the mail. I've been there about 15 times, and every 15 times has been the same experience. Reliably delicious food, attentive service. I don't need to try any other place anymore.
I've been to both locations--281 & the Medical Center--and can honestly say that both are to die for. the naan is amazing, the potato-veggie dumpling/fritter thing is addictive, and the chicken tikka is incredible. One of their veggie dishes is so hot (spicy) that I couldn't finish it (and I can usually take the heat), but everything else was cleaned dry off my plate. The buffet is well worth the trip/money. Lunch time is usually pretty open, but weekend nights are very crowded so go early.
The food here is excellent! For anyone who has never tried Indian food, the buffet is a great way to sample several traditional dishes.
HOLE - E - COW the buffet was EXCELLENT!
My friend and I were in San Antonio for the day and didn't research any restaurants before we came. We grabbed a pamplet for Indian food at the hotel and lucky we picked the right one. When we arrived I was grateful for Sunday buffet (GREAT PRICE) and I noticed it was Best Of on Citysearch. Sometimes I'm a little weary of buffets but upon looking my mouth started watering. SOOO many choices!! MANY more than other Indian buffets. I cannot tell you how GREAT the food was! All fresh, excellent, tasty simosas, naan, chicken tikka, 2 types of rices, saag paneer, curried eggs, and others I can't name but were very tasty. I went for seconds & dessert and loved every bite! This was my 5th Indian restuarant I've ever been too and by far the best.
Next time I come down to SA, I've GOT to have me some Indian Palace!!
A long way from home on a Monday afternoon, I needed Indian food and I needed it fast. I'm a frequent visitor to several local spots back home in DC, but can you really get good Indian food in SAN ANTONIO? Surprisingly yes... if you go to India Palace! The staff greeted me at the door with a smile and escorted me to my table right away. I ordered the buffet and was impressed by the variety of hot, fresh, and perfectly spiced menu items including navratan korma, vegetable samosas, tandoori chicken, saag paneer, and baingan bharta to name a few. The kitchen staff were continually bringing out fresh food to restock the buffet as eager customers returned for plate after plate. My server was prompt and friendly, always ready with the water pitcher to refill my glass or to take away my used plates. I enjoyed the ambiance of Indian families eating with their children and the Indian music playing on the television. I ate so much I thought I would have to roll myself out the door! All this for less than ten dollars! I highly recommend India Palace and I will definitely be back for more!!!
The food here is outstanding. However, I've always been disappointed that the samosas and pakoras are usually not warm at all, and rarely crispy. I've eaten at India Palace a couple times a month for a while, and the food is almost always different when I go in. Be careful with the lamb curry, because you may chip a tooth on the occasional bone fragment. The mango pudding is to die for, and it truly homemade. Unlike other Indian restaurants I've been to where you can tell it's vanilla pudding with mango flavor, this is the real deal. The milkballs are great, too. I highly recommend the chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, and tandoori chicken. Avoid the tomato-coconut soup if they have it out; it tastes like canned tomato soup and has little coconut flavor.
My husband and i love this place. The buffet is always rotated, it's usually pretty busy in there too. So everything is fresh. The staff is friendly and always there t orefill your drink or take plates. My 1 yr old son even loves the nan bread, vegetable rice, a few of the curries and loves the rice pudding. We have also got take out of the chicken tikka masala and it's a lways delicious!
So I'm in San Antonio on a business trip and I stumble across this gem (it's close to the hotel I'm staying at), and I've been there three times in a week! It's quietly tucked away in a shopping center, but the interior is very clean, with very well-presented tables and Indian decor and music. The food.....wow. I've tried probably ten or twelve different things on the buffet and every one of them bursts with flavor, and the kitchen makes sure that the food is rotated often and everything tastes painstakingly fresh. The bone-in tandoori chicken is moist and meaty....don't pass it up. They have a quaint selection of wines and several hard-to-find Indian beers to go with the meal (try a Dansburg). My only small complaint, which is probably just a personal preference, is that a few of their dishes are just a tad heavy on the cilantro. It's a powerful herb that overpowers the other spices and flavors a little bit and leaves the palate thinking ""mexican food"" for just a second... but hey in San Antonio, that may be a bonus!
Overall, two big thumbs up to Indian Palace... keep up the good work, my friends.
I LOVE this place. I've never ate off of the actual menu, I usually get the buffet. There are so many choices! Even though there are a variety of meat dishes, it's a great choice when I want to stick to veggies. Love the curry and the spices, and not too overwhelming either. It's a crowded place during lunch, but I've never had trouble getting a seat.
I love this place. It's a good value and the food is delicious. Im a veggie and I love that they have lots of vegetarian choices. My faves include spicy garbanzo and the Saag panner (spinach and cheese). The rice pudding is good too.
I travel all over the U.S. and the value and quality of my meal can not be beaten by any other Indian restaurant I have tried. If you live in San Antonio and want a change from Tex-Mex I would recommend the buffet. Great quality and the food in the buffet is always replenished. Enjoy.
After moving here from Boston I thought I'd never find a decent Indian joint. Welp, have I got news for y'all! This place is the BOMB!!! It might not be the fanciest looking restaurant in SA (which will prolly turn off those N-sders), but for those of us who want a hearty, tasty, and cheap meal....this IS the Indian place for you. India Palace is full of flavors that are all diverse and enjoyable. Peeps who can't tell salt from pepper should not come here. Buffet is awesome! Always fresh, hot and yummy! Dinner is great too! And the prices are DAMN good!!!! Also currently expanding the dining area :-)
