I am a pretty good sucker for good

I am a pretty good sucker for good tacos. They have a diverse menu and although the wait can stink I try and go at times that it's not so crowded. I really like variety so they way this place works really floats my boat.

Barely open

I'm only leaving a 3 star review b/c I'm mad they aren't open more often :-(. Seriously the best tacos in Atlanta but they are closed during day, closed on Sundays.....it's a mess. I guess when you got food that great, you can afford to be open one day per week. LOL

Athens Location is Great

I read some bad reviews about Taqueria Del Sol in Atlanta, but the Athens location is great.

It is located in the same spot that a service station used to be, so it retains that charm but it is fixed up very well. The service is always very fast and the people that work there always take care of your baskets and cups (making it seem almost half-fast food/ half restaurant.)

I personally love the carnita (slow-cooked pork), the barbecued pork, or the chicken tacos. The carnitas keep me coming back. My fiance loves their fish tacos (deep fried tilapia with pablano tartar sauce and pickled jalapenos.)

The enchiladas are also very good. You can choose between cheese, bean, brisket or chicken with a red bean chili, a pork green chili, or a lemon cream sauce (better than it sounds.)

I totally recommend this restaurant in Athens. It's affordable, delicious and the servers are very helpful and friendly.

Good Food except-- old discolored "" fresh salsa""...

We had two versions of the same salsa. One of the salsas were brown, bland, and tasted like it had been refrigerated uncovered for a week. The other salsa (which the staff claims is the exact same salsa) was bright red and tasted great.. Hmmm the salsa is hit or miss here. The food was decent. I wouldn't write home about it. The only reason I am even posting is because of the nasty salsa discrepancy.

Poor service? Are you kidding?

I'm not sure what expectations you could possibly have about ""service"" at TDS. You wait in line, you order your food, and the wait staff brings it. That's it!

This is not a full service restaurant where you flag down waiters to refill your drinks or bring out desserts. If you want more water or tea, you get it yourself, people.

As for ""attitude"", there may be a tiny touch of that, but put yourself in the position of these waiters. The place is always full, no one leaves tips, and it's thankless work.

As for the food? I have been going to TDS since the late 80s before it was even TDS. It is the best lunch place in town, bar none.

Great food, poor service

The Tacos here are really good along with the rest of the menu. It is always packed and has all kinds of people coming in there, but the one thing that makes it only get 3 stars is the service. They are not friendly, they kind of give you dirty looks from time to time if they don't like what you said or you made your order to complicated. Our waiter dissappeared on us, and we sat with empty drink cups for like 15 minutes before I flagged someone down and asked them if they could get us some drinks. They said they would find my waiter and he still took another 5 minutes before he came. Its a shame that such good food goes to waste with such poor service.

Good food - not at all family friendly!

We've always enjoyed their tacos - despite their long lines. However, they are not in any fashion or form family friendly! They do give you dirty looks when you bring in a lil' one...

so so food

The tacos are good and cheap, but the service here is cheap too. The waiter was rude and disappeared for almost half the night. We had to flag down a different person, who told us that he would look for our waiter.

service isn't good

The food is forgettable, but the customer service was not. Seriously, I wonder how this place stays open with all the bad wait staff reviews its been getting. The waiters were very slow with our orders and our refills. I understand that food takes time to cook, but when it takes more than 30 minutes, there's something seriously wrong.

thrashy service

If I wanted thrashy service I would have just gone to some seedy dive. Save yourself the money and the aggravation

RUDE!!!

I had actually been a frequent guest at this restaurant since it is close to my office and very affordable. On my last visit, the gentleman at the cash register verbally berated my friend. He was extremely condescending and dismissive and we left with my friend in tears. There is no way I will EVER step foot in this place again. There are too many other options in Atlanta that offer quality food with quality customer service.

For Heaven's Sake, Why?

""Northern hospitality with Southern efficiency.""

This is for the Decatur location - can't seem to move it though. Anyway...

Avoid this Faux-ican disaster. The only thing authentic was my disgust.

We got such terrible and unjustified treatment here from the manager (as a group of people of color) that we thought the place might be run by bigots. Was ready to call the NAACP, until I read the citysearch reviews and learned that they are equal opportunity douchebags. And, seriously, the food is just ""okay,"" at best. I don't see what the hype is about. Por favor.

This place is so not worth it. You'll get better food and much better treatment elsewhere. I can only explain this place's popularity as a successful psychological manipulation - making people think that if the lines are long and customers put up with abuse, the food must be good and the place is worth it. Trust me, it ain't. Don't fall for it.

Different!

When we pulled into the parking lot we could see the line of people almost wrapped around the parking lot and almost left but decided to stay. I am so glad we stayed. The line is extremely long and it was really hot that day but when we finally got inside, it was worth it. The food was great and the prices were even better. If you ever go there, you have to try the shrimp corn chowder. It's spicy but so good!!!

I don't get it

This is a great place for college kids who want to get a couple of cheap tacos, eat quickly, and leave the restaurant. With all the tasty and affordable Mexican food in Atlanta, I'd rather sit at a table and enjoy my food comfortably versus waiting in a long line with no guarantee of a table...just for a couple of $2 tacos. It might be best in the dead of winter when the lines are shorter, but I will go elsewhere for a cheap Mexican fix.

Good food, awful straff

It's a shame that a place like Taqueria Del Sol that serves good food has to employ such A-holes to work there. I never seen such a collection of rude individuals in one place like I have at the Taqueria - Howell Mill location. The head A-hole is the bald headed guy with the beard. God forbid you need something and ask that fellow.

I've been going there for nine years. I accepted the rude people that worked there because I liked the food. But there comes a point in which you become sick of being treated like garbage. I have a choice and I'm not going back.

twice a week isn't enough

get the weekly specials. always a good choice. Never had a meal I didn't like. the rudeness as some people say,is part of the atmispere. It's not really rudness it's just getting you use to the rules! once you know the rules....no problem.

Best Little Tacos!

My options, get there early or stand in line. Either way, the wait is well worth it. I'm addicted to the fresh salsa and the chicken tacos. YUM!!! I've been there several times and the staff has been cordial each and every time.

Rude Staff... Rude Manager.

Rude staff... even the manager.... I was appalled at the way they spoke to my elderly grandmother. I used to be a regular but will NEVER eat there again. Customer Service is dead.

Overrated! Mediocre food and rude staff

This restaurant is very overrated. The staff is arrogant and rude. They have no reason to be especially when the food is mediocre. The tacos sound good but don't deliver. The fish taco tastes like a fish stick and the fried chicken taco is bland. I've taken my business and money elsewhere. There are too many other good options in Atlanta.
