Good choices for breakfast, however I would recommend avoiding highland bakery on the weekends. It is very crowded and usually has a long wait; however, if you come here during the week there is never a wait and the restaurant has a different feel to it. Love the wait staff and the food is consistently good.

I'm just copying and pasting the email I wrote and never recieved a response to. Which is just bad form. When we first walked in, we thought this would be our regular lunch place. Alas.

I visited your restaurant for the first time on Monday. My friend and I were delighted to find that you were open on the holiday!
The desserts you create are beautiful and the restaurant is very cute so we had high hopes.
Unfortunately, our dining experience was not completely pleasurable. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Our problem was solely with the food. We ordered a dish of black beans and grits. The beans were vinegary and left a really unpleasant aftertaste.
She ordered cilantro corn pancakes. The dish was really pretty, but it was also really under-seasoned. Honestly, they didn't taste all that different from a regular pancake. The most flavorful part of the salsa. Which was weird because usually cilantro-anything packs a punch.
Also, I had a crab burger. I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the burger was not composed of ""lump meat"". The meat was minced into such tiny pieces it was hardly more than a paste. It was also completely flavorless and if the menu hadn't said it, I would have never guessed it was crab. The texture of the burger was only made stranger by the little mustard seeds throughout it. The bread was good though.
On a high note I did have some wonderfully prepared zucchini and squash. I'm grateful for that, because otherwise I would've left almost as hungry/unsatisfied as I was when I arrived.
Before I left I debated speaking with a manager, but I decided to think it over. I only decided to contact you, because it (the crab burger especially) might be an irregular occurrence or something that you haven't noticed yet.

I must say the food their is good.. I gave it a 1 star because the SERVICE IS TERRIBLE.. I feel they don't really care about their service to the customers because they are really busy.. Well as I have visited the place serveral times. My last visit was so horrible, it made me write this review..
1st they tried to sit me and my partner in this corner where the table was crammed , we would have had to squeeze in it to sit at the table .. So I went back to the front informed the hostess that we would rather wait on another table.. Well they said we can sit you at the bar, we were hungry after waiting 30 minutes for table.. so the bar was fine.. When we sat down they took our drink order, then came back about 10minutes later to take our food order.. We place our order.. and waited 30 minutes.. minutes no food.???? we decided to wait 10 more minutes ... still no food?? so after 40 minutes.. we left. I told the manager at the door we were leaving because we had been waiting 40 minutes an our food is not out.. He looked at us and said ""ok"".... he didnt apologize or anything... So that tells me THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR PATRONS , BECAUSE THEY HAVE ENOUGH BUSINESS... WELL THEY WILL NOT GET MY BUSINESS EVER AGAIN.

Breakfast is probably the least respected meal of the day…. that is unless you’re including Taco Bell’s notorious ‘4th meal’ in your list… people skip it, look past it and sometimes even look down on it. Heck for breakfast to get any love or respect it has had to form a tenuous partnership with lunch, bringing us brunch. Luckily for us ATLiens, there is one place in the city that is doing breakfast, and its cousin brunch, justice like no other place in town: Highland Bakery.
Highland Bakery has one of the most creative and inviting menus you’ll ever see in a breakfast or brunch spot. And even more impressive; everything is executed well. Yes for the traditionalists there’s the standard eggs, bacon and toast. But its for those more adventurous diners that the bakery truly begins to shine. Try the cilantro corn cakes, the peanut butter french toast or for something that will truly have you in breakfast ecstasy: the sweet potato pancakes; hands down the best in town! And oh yeah, this is a bakery afterall, so don’t forget to try a tasty cupcake or cinnamon roll on your way out, cause yes, Highland Bakery does them well too.

After several visits to this restaurant, I've given up. Today, we arrived at 1:00pm for brunch for a table of 3. After a 45 minute wait for a table, the host kept seating tables of 2 only. He couldn't figure out that pushing two 'couples' tables together could seat 3 sooner than having to wait for a table that sat 4 people.
We left and we will NOT be back again. Although the food is tasty, it is SO NOT worth the wait. There are plenty of other better restaurant options in Inman Park. It still surprises me that patrons of this establishment tolerate such low standards. In this economy, restaurants should be falling over themselves to accommodate the very people who keep them in business.
Good luck Highland Bakery. You'll need it!

I used to be a fan of this neighborhood cafe, but the quality has been letting me down lately...
Chipped plates, poorly presented food, overcooked & cold eggs... and less than happy wait staff.
It's time for me to find a new brunch place.

What can i say about Highland Bakery other than the food is AMAZING! The service is spotty at best (but hello this is Atlanta) - they are as good as anywhere else. The food is AMAZING!!!! I am about the pickiest person in the whole damn world but you wont find a better breakfast this cheap (if you think this is overpriced head on over to the Buckhead Diner or its Sister Brunch Establishment across the street) anywhere ITP or OTP.
I think the people who left nasty comments must have had someone urinate in their cereal because I have been to the Highland Bakery many many times (almost every Sunday) and have never ever had a meal less than amazing. The Jalape?o Focaccia Bread is to DIE FOR! Ignore the bitter and go let your tastebuds have a PARTY!!!

I've been a frequent to HB for more than two years except for the last couple of months. Today I revisited after the long break but I am reluctant to continue going more! It is EXTREMELY overpriced!! Much more expensive many other places with food as good as theirs. The service seems like it got worse -was never great but tolarable. Not sure it is worth it anymore...

I am one of the bakeries #1 fans. I actually used to eat there 3 to 4 times a week. The customer service is great. The staff is very friendly and social. They make the dining experience very comfortable. They have the best sweet potato pancakes in the world. I mean they just absolutely melt in your mouth. I recommend this place to everybody. The location is great, quiet, and cozy. The prices are reasonable and they move quick.

I had to write because I was just sooo disappointed with this last visit. I've been taking a break from going to HB because of the spotty service ranging from really friendly one time, surly the next, and almost always lacking in attention to detail like picking up all the little sugar and butter and jelly packages from the table from time to time, or wiping the always-leaking cream from the poorly designed dispensers from time to time. Counter service is no better. Today I paid 9.95 for a Breakfast Burrito - this is what I got: bland scrambled eggs with corn (!?) wrapped in cold flour tortillas on top of watery unseasoned black beans topped with some rather strange tasting ""Latin"" sauce and cold/unmelted cheese on top. It was a little better after I drenched it in Tabasco. I ordered a mini blueberry muffin and it was hard and stale. The counter service was very friendly today, (although the table servers repeatedly bumped into my chair on their way back and forth, and not one ever said ""excuse me"" I finally adjusted my chair), but the guy next to me had so many wrappers and sugar and napkins and stuff around him that no one would pick up that it even made me uncomfortable. He kept trying to gather it all up, and I felt like reaching over and cleaning up for him because they just kept serving his coffee over all the mess. There was a person who seemed to be the manager who walked over and surveyed the messy counter, but then walked away without cleaning up or getting someone else to.
If it were just this one time I'd let it slide, but HB consistently serves mediocre food, and gives unprofessional service, at a little higher than average price. Love the romantic, funky ambience, but with all the other good intown breakfast places, I'm gonna have to take a permanent pass on Highland Bakery.

My hubbie and I have been eating breakfast and occasionally lunch at the HIghland Bakery for about four years. We keep coming back for more--it's our favorite breakfast/brunch spot in the city. I've tried almost everything on the menu and it's all delicious!! The servers are great, too.

First, I should say that the food was excellent. This is the best place in Atlanta to find fresh salmon with an everything bagel. However, the hostess is AMAZINGLY RUDE. (Yeah, I had to capitalize that one)
We arrived at 11am on a Sunday with most of the outside tables empty, so we sat down at one of them. A minute later, the hostess came out with a major bark saying that others were waiting for tables and we just couldn't ""do what we just did."" So we got up. No problem! With more than three empty tables outside, we didn't think they were very busy. Bad call on our part.
Then she stopped us and said it was okay because the people waiting were waiting for a table inside. We were free to stay seated and she would get us a waiter. HUH!?
So why would she cause such a commotion if the tables were actually free? Who knows, maybe she was having a bad day. But we thought it was a really rude way to start a meal. We started to leave anyway and go elsewhere, but one person with us insisted that the food was worth it. Fortunately, the rude woman was just the hostess and not our waiter. We never saw her again, which was a good thing.

Delicious. I have been on the look out for a really good Benedict dish... Their crabcake benedict is awesome. The eggs were a bit over cooked and the crabcake had a little bit too much mustard. But no body is perfect, right? This place is really good. Haven't tried their baked goods yet....Coffee is a little weak, but I like it super strong.
Went on a Sunday at 1pm and waited for about 30 to 45 minutes for a table, but well worth it.

Look, I am not a picky person when it comes to food---and I'm always open to new places. But Highland Bakery is so heavy on the butter and sauces and creams that I could neither finish the meal and felt sick afterwards.
So i'm writing this review so others won't be sorely disappointed as I was.
I had a to go order from there the other day---it was just awful. When I picked it up the people were very friendly and I was excited about my lunch. It was a bit pricey ($7 sandwiches, $8 salads etc) but I thought it was worth trying out since it seemed to be a nice, original local restaurant.
My grilled cheese was SOAKED in butter....I couldn't even taste the cheese and the garlic bread smelled so strong. The side order of Chips were very oily and frankly tasteless. My ""house salad"" can only be described as ""blah"" because the lettuce was limp and the sauce had too much mustard inside. Finally, the piece of chocolate cake ($6) which looked so pretty from the outside just tasted so heavy and ceamy (not in the good way).
Overall, not good at all.

i live close and this place is ALWAYS busy. i wont go near it on a saturday or sunday unless i'm feeling patient. but the boyfriend and i went in on monday for lunch and got there right at noon. the place was already full, but we were seated within our 10 minute quote. our server was effective, but was very quiet and hardly made eye contact. i had a half and half, consisting of the mediterranean sandwich (roasted turkey, pesto, goat cheese, field greens and mealy sliced tomato--- its so hard to get a nice pretty ripe one this time of year!) and a cup of the white bean chicken chili (needed just a bit of salt, and some of the beans were a bit undercooked). the bf got the highland breakfast (2 eggs, a choice of meat, potatoes or grits, and toast). his eggs were cooked perfectly. we each got a mocha. everything for around $23 bucks. i wanted to get one of the delicious looking cupcakes, but i guess you have to leave something for next time! we will be back.

We absolutely love this place. Great neighborhood breakfast. Their breakfast sandwiches and rocotta pancakes are exceptional. Their coffee is always a little bitter for me but upgrade to the Latte or Mocha for a great coffee experience. Even Free Wifi. Busy on weekends. So abandon the Biscuit and have a real grown-up breakfast in Inman Park!
